Bernhardt Lacrosse was developed in the summer of 2008 by former college lacrosse player and current father of three, Jim Bernhardt. When he had time, Jim helped out with his sons' lacrosse programs to offer any help with fundamentals and pass along his knowledge of the game. Over the years he saw the "club" lacrosse programs beginning to boom and they became very attractive to the local lacrosse player. Jim, with his background as a former D1 player and High School Lacrosse coach on Long Island, thought it was good that there was this opportunity for young players. However, after watching many club programs thought there was a way that it could be done better. Although with great intentions to grow the game, quantity over quality seemed to be the trend amongst the club programs. He felt that it should be about development and improving at lacrosse, and not just playing lacrosse games. Bottom line, he wanted ‘substance over style’….’quality over quantity’.
Jim and his sons decided it was time to develop a camp that offered all the missing criteria the club programs and camps in the area promised. The family created Bernhardt Lacrosse Camps and held it's very first youth camp in the summer of 2008, which was a success. As time went on, the camps grew in numbers and as the players got older a demand for a High School camp became a necessity. Since starting, Bernhardt Lacrosse has taught some of the elite players in Florida, which have included High School All-Americans, College Commits and current College Players.
After starting the camps in 2008, Jake and Jesse Bernhardt attended the University of Maryland where they both had very successful careers. During their time at the University of Maryland they were fortunate enough to experience an ACC Championship and two National Championship appearances. After graduating they were selected 12th overall in the 2012 MLL Draft and 4th overall in the 2013 MLL Draft. Jake was drafted 12th overall in the 2012 draft by the Hamilton Nationals, but was traded to the Ohio Machine in 2013 after sustaining a season ending injury in the 2012 college season. Jesse was drafted 4th overall in the 2013 MLL draft by the Chesapeake Bayhawks and won the MLL Championship in his rookie season.
At Bernhardt Lacrosse we pride ourselves on doing things correctly and taking the proper steps in developing the complete player. We provide an elite staff each year, which have included college coaches, college all-americans and professional players (MLL & LXM Pro) to work with our campers. We are proud to consider our camp the premier camp in Central Florida for all ages and experience levels.
We hope to see you at one of our camps or teams!
Be the Best,
